Gift Packaging

Saturday, February 28, 2009

I have been researching different gift packaging options to offer for months now and these here are the winners. Everything I found was cardboard boxes which works well for some lines but I don't think eco-friendly should be synonymous to only cardboard gift boxes. These here are elegant and beautiful enough to reuse after receiving. If you can't find use for it in your home then you can certainly use as it again for another gift.

Colorstrology

Saturday, February 21, 2009

I found this fun website sometime ago and thought of it today as I looked through my Pantone book. Colorstrology by Michele Bernhardt is one of my favortie flash websites I have visited. It provides you with the pantone color of your birth month and also your unique birth pantone color. For those who work with or have in the past worked with Pantones this is a pretty neat use of them. My birth color: Apple Butter Pantone 18-1426 Hardworking ~ Theorist ~ Philosopher ... I have to agree. Have fun!

For those who just can't get enough of Pantone you can find their Fall and Spring 2009 color reports here:

Earth-Friendly Organization

Newsprint DVD Bin

Newsprint Hanging Basket

Handled Newsprint Baskets

I had a chance to pop into The Container Store on Friday and saw a couple of interesting eco-friendly organizational products there.  The one that interested me the most is unavailable online but it was this neat bulletin board made of recycled paper compose.  I would have purchased it but I made my bulletin board myself.  The items above are woven from hand-rolled, 100% repurposed newspaper and have a light matte lacquer applied to prevent the ink from smudging or transferring. How neat!

Just wondering if it's only me but my penmanship keeps getting worse!! What happened??? I had the perfect penmanship growing up. Going to school in Peru you we're only allowed to write in script, so when I came to the U.S. it was hard for me to get used to print (weird, perhaps). Hence, I was ahead of my class when we got to mastering script. So what went wrong?? I am trying to decipher if it’s all due to my years of studying and trying to write down as much as possible (you know what they say about doctors!) or is it this damn technology. I can type away faster than I can process a though... So here it goes my very first poll... I'll take any comments as well... It's now 12:27 am NYC time and this is how much this is bothering me that I had to log on and post. Fyi, my penmanship is now a mix of print and script within a word... in other words, a hot mess!

What's to blame when it comes to poor penmanship?

  1. Damn those college years...
  2. Move over spellchecker, time to blame the keyboard
  3. Simply comes with aging
  4. A combo of all three?! (this can't be good)

*And because life just can't be simple I am unable to use the poll function within this message*

I'm a PC : )

While watching Top Chef yesterday with the hubster we saw this commercial of Kylie, a 4 1/2yr old PC little girl.  If you haven't seen this watch it now! She even color corrects the picture before emailing it out! This is by far more than my mom can do with a pc.  We're back on team PC with this commercial... HOW CUTE!!!!

Green Decor

Here are some eco-friendly wall decor ideas from VivaTerra. My favorite: Gingko Wall Art.

Hand-Carved Birch Forest Panels
While many of us associate tung trees with the furniture oil produced from their seeds, in Asia wood from this fast-growing, deciduous tree is greatly admired for its density, texture, and durability. Our stately panels help explain why. Beautifully hand-carved, each lightweight panel displays de-bossed birch stands recessed and emerging from a darker surface. Each panel is 18"W x 1.5"D x 59"H, 54"W x 1.5"D x 59"H if hung together.

Serene Buddha Panel
In Thailand, where thousands of images of Buddha fill daily life, we searched until we found the one that moved us with its serenity. This Buddha face, with its gently closed eyes and expressive lips, is skillfully and delicately etched in three joining panels of sustainable monkey pod wood. The contrasting grain adds lustrous highlights. Hung with the embedded hooks or propped against a wall on a shelf or table, the Buddha's radiant beauty transforms living spaces into calming sanctuaries. LARGE 47"L x 30"W, SMALL 36"L x 24"W

Gingko Wall Art
Made from re-crafted metal, our decorative ginkgo wall sculpture gracefully incorporates three-dimensional flowing branches that dance with the tree's distinctly shaped, ribbed leaves. Perfectly proportioned, this naturalistic art accents a wide range of design styles. As the oldest living seed plant, whose trees can live more than 3,000 years, the ginkgo symbolizes longevity in many cultures. 35"W x 2.75"D x 48"H
